Home Heating Options, Installation And Maintenance
Home heating is an inevitable investment for any homeowner. The good news is that there is a wide range of options available to choose from, based on where you live and what your needs are. HVAC or Heating Ventilation and Air conditioning equipment take care of the heating and cooling requirements in a home. Boilers
Boilers are heating equipment that runs on oil or natural gas. Hot water is sent via the pipes to radiators, fan coil units, the baseboard convection equipment and other space heating equipment. Heat Pumps
Heat pumps perform the function of transferring heat from one environment to another. They are powered by electricity or other fuels. Heat pumps provide home heating in winter and cooling in summer. Heat pumps comprise of the following:

- A blower
- Evaporator coil
- Controls
- A condenser as an outdoors unit with piping through which the refrigerant flows.
Where the requirement of heating exceeds cooling, the heat pump may be backed up with electric heating equipment as its efficiency reduces when the outside temperature becomes low. Heat pump accessories include air filters, air cleaners, a humidifier and a condensate pump to remove the water by the air conditioning. Heat pumps must be regularly maintained by cleaning the air filters, humidifiers and electronic grids.
Radiant Heating Systems
Radiant heating is a room heating method that basically transfers heat to the floor via plastic tubes filled with water, or through electric floor mats. The unique thing about radiant heating is, the major part of the heat is transferred to the floor and only a small part gets released into the air making the heating consistently comfortable. Radiant heating can also heat the entire home.
Furnaces
Furnaces are the most popular residential heating units in the US. These provide adequate heating. Traditional wood furnaces use coal or wood as fuel. The fuel is in a sealed firebox connected to a heat exchanger. Air is forced by a blower over the exchanger and through the ducts into the room to be heated. The furnace is made up of its cabinet, the firebox, the blower, doors via which you can stoke the fire or clean the furnace and a blower. Wood furnaces are also available as combination models with oil or gas burner and backup electrical elements. As with any appliance, it is important to size the wood furnace properly to ensure adequate heat and performance.
While selecting your heating system, take care to ensure that you go in for a heat source that you can access readily and is cost-effective. A high-efficiency natural gas furnace, or condensing furnace, is considered the most energy efficient furnace available.
A professionally licensed contractor must carry out any HVAC and heating installation so that any heating repairs can be taken care of in a timely manner. A properly planned HVAC maintenance can avoid heating repairs.
